10 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT

Isabella Velasquez

  1. The inspiration for my first picture book, A Pawsome Nativity Story, came from a 7th-grade language arts writing assignment.
  2. My favorite vacation spot is Torch Lake in Northern Michigan. The inspiration for Winter Running with the Wolves comes from Michigan’s beautiful forests and breathtaking lakes.
  3. Kodiak, a wolf in Winter Running with the Wolves, was named after a wolf from the Michigan Zoo.
  4. For a 4th-grade talent show, my best friends and I wrote and performed a song called Noah’s Puppies, to the tune of Matt Maher’s “Lord I Need You.”
  5. I have been playing volleyball for 9 years and have recently started coaching and refereeing.
  6. I adore dogs! My favorite types are golden retrievers, huskies, German shepherds, Australian shepherds, Alaskan malamutes, border collies, and Great Pyrenees.
  7. Having multiple food sensitivities makes finding yummy treats a challenge for me. One of my favorite desserts is a cookie sammie sandwich from my favorite restaurant, Intentional Foods.
  8. In preparation for writing Winter Running with the Wolves, it was really important to me that the details were authentic and accurate concerning wolf behavior. I conducted a bunch of research and learned a lot of interesting facts about wolves. I hope you learn something you never knew about this amazing species!
  9. My parents love to remind me of how, when I was a toddler, I would talk and talk, but my words didn’t make sense because I had created my own language. I then like to laugh back and tell them, “Jokes on them!” Look at me now!
  10. The inspiration for the main characters in Winter Running with the Wolves comes from my favorite TV shows and movies.
